Zodiak Kids was the buyers’ studio of choice at this year’s MipJunior, with three animations entering the official top 30 most-screened shows of the 2019 market.
The French studio’s newly-unveiled animation Agent Jon Le Bon charted highest, at number four, while Babyatrice reached 14th place and Cry Babies, newly acquired from IMC Toys, snuck in the tail end of the top 30.
Animation dominated the screenings, with no live-action projects entering the top 20, and French productions in particular: half of the top 10 most-screened projects were from Gallic studios.
Studio 100 Media’s horror-meets-wholesome animation 100% Wolf – Legend of Moonstone (pictured top) was the most-screened of all the shows, a fact CEO Martin Krieger was “thrilled” about. The show focuses on Freddy Lupin, a 13 year old from a long line of werewolves who, in a twist to the formula, transforms into a pink poodle.
It’s this refreshing subversion of the trope that Martin credits to the shows popularity;an underlying theme that “heroes come in many forms” which he says has “high social relevance” among young people who are redefining self-identity and societal norms.
Pikwik Pack (pictured top), a new series from Guru Studios, was the second most-screened show. It follows Suki the hedgehog and pals as they deliver magical packages to the denizens of Pikwik Cove. Hari International's Mystery Lane rounds out the top three,
