Hello Kitty is the new poster cat for the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals initiative.
Sanrio and the UN are teaming up to promote the SDGs through a new global video series on the Hello Kitty YouTube channel.
Videos will focus on six of the 17 SDGs which represent a combination of environmental, gender, societal and health issues.
They are: Goal 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, Goal 4 – Quality Education, Goal 5 – Gender Equality, Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, Goal 13 – Climate Action, and Goal 14 – Life Below Water.
Melissa Fleming, Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications, United Nations, says: “Hello Kitty is bringing her enormous fanbase to our global efforts to educate young people, in every part of our world, about the Sustainable Development Goals, and why they should be involved in achieving them.”
The new partnership builds on a previous Hello Kitty-fronted video campaign that began in September 2018 and explained the goals to Japanese audiences.
This will be expanded in collaboration with the UN’s Creative Community Outreach Initiative to a new series of videos for Hello Kitty fans worldwide. The videos will depict the popular character interacting with UN experts and visiting UN projects around the globe.
