Recognising the brand’s rich 100-year history and its life-long enthusiasts, the company has detailed its new product launches, marketing initiatives, and other activities to celebrate the landmark anniversary

Hornby celebrates centenary year thumbnail

Founded in 1920, 2020 marks Hornby’s centenary year. An impressive 100 years have passed since Frank Hornby built his first model locomotive.

To celebrate this milestone, the company has not only been launching a host of new products, including limited-edition re-releases, but it’s also been running some exciting marketing initiatives, creating new video content, and more – all designed to recognise the brand’s rich 100-year history and its life-long enthusiasts.  

Limited edition products 

On the product front, a range of anniversary lines have been produced to celebrate each decade of the last century.  

Each limited edition product comes with bespoke packaged to reflect how they appeared within that era. From tinplate locomotives, to diecast vehicles, complete train sets to gold-plated locomotives, there is something to appeal to all model railway enthusiasts.

Campaigns and activities  

Throughout the year, Hornby is running a Memories campaign. Having asked Hornby customers to send in their fondest Hornby Memories, the team has created a Memories Bookazine with all the current memories. To view the Bookazine click here.  

Meanwhile, on Hornby’s YouTube channel, the company has been sharing a wonderful series of Hornby Memory interviews.  

In addition, Hornby has its ongoing Golden Ticket Campaign, which has seen the company hide various Hornby Golden Tickets in multiple centenary product boxes. These tickets all have a monetary value. 

A special 100th year anniversary film, titled ‘More than just a hobby… A lifetime’s journey’, in celebration of the 100 years that have passed since Frank Hornby built his first Model Locomotive and the journey that Hornby fans have all taken with the brand. The piece can viewed below: 

 

In May, Hornby ran its Baking Challenge, which had a number of entries from Hornby staff and customers.  

And throughout the month of July – Hornby’s official anniversary month – the company has been running its #Hornby100 Social Media Takeover. With daily postings during July, the team’s messaging will be focused around Hornby over the last 100 years. There will also be a number of interactive posts to involve customers and find out how what makes Hornby so special to them.
