Sanrio is partnering with pop culture retail Forbidden Planet to bring two of its kawaii brands, Gudetama and Aggretsuko, to life through a new range of apparel and accessories.

Gudetama launches in time for Easter, with planned activity in the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Good Friday – aptly renamed Gude Friday. Aggretsuko will arrive in time for the global launch of its second season on Netflix later in 2019.

The collections will include t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, tea towels, magnets and travel pass holders, which begin rolling out in Forbidden Planet stores and online at this month.

Gudetama means 'lazy egg' in English

“We are really excited about the partnership with Forbidden Planet which is a great destination for these Sanrio brands. Gude-Friday will even see our lazy egg get out of bed and make an appearance for the launch at the flagship store,” says Sabrina Segalov, Senior Licensing Manager at Sanrio. “Later in the year the rockstar of the kawaii world, Aggretsuko, will launch with the UK’s first range of products. We can’t wait to see this in-store.”

Anthony Garnon, Licensing and Special Projects Manager at Forbidden Planet, reveals that, alongside generic offerings, the retailer will have special seasonal ranges for Gudetama this Halloween and Christmas, as well as “further first-to-market Aggretsuko designs”.

“This is an amazing opportunity to grow our pop culture offering, with two increasingly popular Sanrio properties,” he adds. “Our customers love both already, so it’s great to be able to offer them more, through new designs and categories.”
