Luxury pen maker Montegrappa drew inspiration from Queen’s breakout album for a limited-edition edition pen collection released in collaboration with Bravado.
Designed and created at its century-old Italian atelier, Montegrappa turned to the cover art of A Night at the Opera – the album which propelled the band to super-stardom and features the Queen Crest, a logo designed by frontman Freddie Mercury.
The crest has been reproduced around the pens’ barrels using lost-wax casting, with numerous other design features referencing Freddie Mercury’s iconic stage presence.
Giuseppe Aquila, CEO and Creative Director at Montegrappa, says the project was a personal treat: “I grew up in the Seventies and Eighties, when it was impossible to overlook Queen’s presence. They were a force of nature and we Italians particularly loved Freddie Mercury’s flamboyance and showmanship.”
Bravado MD David Boyne describes the collection as “a beautiful way to pay homage to both Queen and Freddie Mercury, one of the world’s greatest singers, performers and songwriters”.
The pens are available as either a roller ball or piston-fed fountain pen – 555 of each are available in the limited run – and come bedazzled with blue sapphires, rubies and diamonds, with silver and gold plating round a resin core.
