An official Betty Boop Diner is now open for business for the first time in Japan. The Shimbashi, Tokyo restaurant was officially licensed by King Features through a deal brokered with Food Business Consultant Inc. (FBC) by King’s Japanese agent, Copyrights Asia.

The diner, which held its official opening on 17 January 2017, is reminiscent of a 1950s US West Coast eating establishment with an atmosphere that makes guests feel as if they are stepping into a scene from a movie. A sales corner for Betty Boop souvenir products is in development and special events for Valentine’s Day, Christmas and other peak holiday seasons are planned.

Signage and décor throughout capture Betty’s classic image while the menu features everything one would expect to find at an American diner, as well as more regionally-inspired dishes such as Tex-Mex and Cajun-style cuisine. And naturally, the special Betty Boop-decorated food items, especially desserts, are both delicious and cute! Since the diner is located in a business area, the breakfast menu is extensive, from pancakes to sausages, French toast to ham and a wide selection of egg dishes

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with FBC, who have extensive experience managing character-identified restaurants and cafes in Japan., said Cathleen Titus, vice president of international licensing for King Features. “They have done a terrific job of capturing Betty’s combination of glamour and sassiness to communicate a genuine ’50s vibe for the diner.”

From her first appearance in 1930 until today, Betty Boop has become one of the world’s most beloved, iconic brands. Working closely with property owner Fleischer Studios, King Features is the exclusive worldwide licensing agent for Betty Boop.
