UK Football Association will tap into the popularity of Pikachu and co. to promote its National Youth Futsal programme

The FA shoots for success with Pokémon partnership thumbnail

The FA is calling on Pikachu to electrify its National Youth Futsal programme, an initiative to promote indoor football.

Partnering with the Pokémon Company International, the FA aims to make futsal – a variant of soccer often played indoors on smaller, hard-surface pitches – a natural part of children’s football development by increasing participation from school and club teams.

England's Futsal head coach Michael Skubala, says: “It’s great to have such an iconic brand as Pokémon to sit alongside Futsal development in England.

"We'll work hard together to engage with young players so that they can experience Futsal as part of their football development. It’s an exciting, fast-paced, technical game and I know they will love it.”

The brand partnership will tap into the ‘evolution’ aspect of Pokémon to appeal to kids and encourage young players along their own path of progression. The FA also hopes to tap into the popularity and recognition of the Pikachu and co. to help raise the profile and appeal of futsal with both boys and girls.
