Penguin Ventures is bringing Spot to the stage through a new partnership with theatrical production company Selladoor.
The brand-new stage show will launch to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Eric Hill’s original Where’s Spot? picture book in 2020.
“Bringing brands to life on stage is a key part of our live events strategy, so we really wanted to find a theatre partner that understood, but more importantly, really loved Spot,” says Thomas Merrington, Creative Director at Penguin Ventures.
“In Selladoor we have found a brilliant creative partner to bring Spot to life and in Guy a wonderful writer who really understands the unique elements of Spot and his world. We are thrilled to be partnering with them to bring Spot to the stage in his milestone 40th year.”
Capturing the spirit of the original books and featuring Spot and his cast of friends, the production will offer families a wonderful experience for first-time theatregoers.
Script writer Guy Unsworth has developed a show that incorporates the most engaging and endearing elements of Spot’s world including search and find, counting, colours, lots of audience participation and songs.
Alexander Parker, Producer for Selladoor Family said: “Spot is a national treasure and we’re delighted to be working with Penguin Ventures and Guy Unsworth to bring him to the stage for a new generation of theatregoers. Selladoor Family is committed to engaging young people in theatre and strongly believe these experiences help to develop a sense of imagination, playfulness and confidence.”
The Selladoor Spot show will embark on a nationwide tour in summer 2020.
