Writer, presenter and Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain will deliver the opening keynote interview at this year’s Children’s Media Conference, which takes place 2-4 July in Sheffield.
Ahead of the publication of her first children’s picture book My Monster and Me this October, at CMC Nadiya will tackle mental health, intolerance, inequality and consider how to inspire young people to feel truly limitless. Nadiya’s willingness to openly discuss her lifelong struggle with panic disorder has struck a chord with audiences and propelled the 2015 baking show winner to national treasure status.
Nadiya’s keynote interview comes as part of this year’s overall theme of Limitless, and will explore what kids’ media can do to support the limitless curiosity, imaginations and entertainment appetite of children, while making sense of the near-limitless choice and connectivity available to them.
Greg Childs, Editorial Director at CMC explains: “Nadiya is an inspiration and a great example of somebody who is relentlessly positive and follows her creative dreams, while managing a busy family life, her own personal challenges and wider discrimination. All of these pressures also impact children and are issues which resonate widely in the kids’ media industry. Her commitment to opening up discussions around these important topics and breaking down stigma is inspiring, and we look forward to welcoming Nadiya to CMC.”
The conference will offer visitors a no-limits exploration of the unprecedented changes facing the industry, including new players and new funding models, new thinking on inclusivity and engagement, and pan-platform brands with limitless ambitions to connect with kids.
Now in its 16th year, organisers expects to welcome more than 1,200 delegates to this year's CMC, kicking off with the annual market day, the CMC International Exchange, on Tuesday 2 July.
