The world’s first outdoor Hasbro-themed water park is to open as the “anchor” of a major new tourist destination in Malaysia.
The new water park will occupy 20 of the 600-acre Melaka Tourism City, a new project from Malaysian property developer Meridian Berhad, which will work with tourism developer M101 Holdings on the Hasbro-themed zone.
Dato’ Seth, majority shareholder at Meridian Berhad, says: “By signing the agreement, we will be entering a relationship with Hasbro to develop the world’s first themed water park based on their beloved brands including My Little Pony, Nerf, Monopoly and more, which will be an iconic anchor attraction at the heart of the MTC master plan.
“The water park will be 20 acres in size, offering a wide range of new rides that are not available in other parks in Malaysia, by weaving in exclusive IP rights.”
The tourist destination has been praised by the country’s Minister of Tourism and Culture, YB Datuk Mohamaddin bin Ketapi, who says the resort is likely to “bring in greater inflow of tourists in the Melaka state” and inject more overseas money into local business.
The Malaysian water park is the latest destination Hasbro is attaching itself to. Last year the toymaker unveiled plans with Imagine Resorts and Hotels for a resort featuring themed hotel rooms and an indoor water park.
