Coolabi Group has appointed Lizenzwerft as licensing agent for Poppy Cat, known locally as Poppy Katz, in Germany, Austria, and German-speaking Switzerland.

Based on the award-winning book series by Lara Jones, Poppy Cat launched on UK TV in 2011 and has since been licensed to some 140 territories globally. The first series aired on KiKA in Germany from May 2015 and the second series launches on 20 April 2017.

Sebastian Debertin, Head of Fiction, Acquisitions and Co-productions, KiKA said: “Poppy Cat is colourful, charming, warm-hearted, magical, imaginative, inspiring and humorous – it lifts the spirits. It is funny and really entertaining - and not only for its kids audience! On top of all that it delivers fantastic ratings. The series perfectly fits KiKA’s profile as the leading kid’s broadcaster in Germany!"

Lizenzwerft is based in Hamburg, Germany and was founded in 2011 by licensing executive Peter Bichler, who brings over 20 years of experience to the agency. The company will develop unique products for the long-term support of Poppy Cat through its established network of manufacturers and retailers.

Lizenzwerft joins El Ocho and Landmark, the licensing agents representing the brand in Spain and Japan respectively.

Peter Bichler of Lizenzwerft, said: “We have observed Poppy Katz over the last 6 months on KiKA and realized how much kids and parents love Lara, Poppy, Uhu, Zuzu, Alma and Mo. The artwork and the story are unique and simply wonderful for young children. We are very proud to have this great brand on board and are looking forward to work closely with Coolabi to make Poppy Katz the best pre-school licensing brand in our markets.”

Fée Heyer, Senior Licensing Manager at Coolabi said: “Poppy Katz is a successful pre-school series in Germany and the excellent support from KiKA has ensured great ratings. We are delighted to welcome Lizenzwerft on board and look forward to working with them to secure new Poppy Katz licensees and retailers.”
