The Lego Group has shared a short Lego Batman animation via its official social media pages, to help children stay safe amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

In the short, Lego Batman shares a fun and memorable message with kids to help keep them safe during these difficult times.

The animation sees Batman get a lesson on a new nemesis, the novel coronavirus.

Designed to be watched by parents and their children to help start a conversation about how kids can also be a superhero by washing their hands and social distancing.

The short, which is in essence a public safety announcement (PSA), stars Will Arnett and Ralph Fiennes of the Lego Batman movie (in which they voiced Batman and Alfred Pennyworth respectively).

The animation opens with Batman doing push-ups and saying: “Okay, so I hear you need my help. Something about a dude named Covid?”

Off-screen, Alfred explains that Covid-19 is an invisible virus. He then outlines what a virus is and offers a kid-friendly description of the novel coronavirus. When Batman acknowledges that Alfred’s description sounds a little scary, Alfred reassures Batman, saying that ”it’s perfectly normal to feel scared or anxious”, normalising an emotion that many children will be feeling at this time. And he advises: “If you’re feeling like this, speak to a trusted adult, like a mother or a father.”

In the PSA, Alfred stressed that we can beat Covid-19 if we work together, and Batman closes the clip, turning to his audience and saying: “You guys can be superheroes by simply listening to health experts and helping to stop the spread of the virus.

“Remember the things that we can all do to get us through these times safely: wash your hands, maintain good social distancing, and watch Lego Batman on repeat.”

Pure Imagination Studios made the video. The company issued the following statement on their website:

“We want to thank everyone at the Lego Company, Warner Bros., Will Arnett and Ralph Fiennes and our incredible team here in Los Angeles and India at Zebu Animation for their help in making this video possible. We want to thank all of the first responders, health care workers, and the front-line workers who are working around the clock to keep us all safe and healthy during this unprecedented time.”
