Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge took a total of £7.3 million at the UK and Irish box office over the Bank Holiday weekend and claiming the number one crown.
The $4 billion global franchise based on the popular Disneyland attraction sees Johnny Depp reprise his most iconic role for the first time in six years as the swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow in the fifth instalment Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge.
Despite a number of challenges to the overall UK box office this weekend, Captain Jack and his crew have held strong with the film’s daily box office takings increasing every single day from Thursday’s initial opening. The film recorded its best day at the UK box office on bank holiday Monday taking £2.07 million, up from £1.76 million on Sunday and £1.69 million on Saturday. Globally the film took $270 million this weekend, making it the twelfth highest international opening of all time.
The previous four Pirates of the Caribbean films; The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man’s Chest, At Worlds End and On Stranger Tides have collectively grossed over £150M at the UK and Irish box office since release.
