Mobile game developer Zynga has drawn back the invisibility cloak on a new puzzle app set in the Wizarding World.
Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells has soft launched in select markets, but will roll out globally on iOS and Android devices, Amazon Kindle and Facebook.
Licensed from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and published under the Portkey Games label, the game weaves match-3 puzzle gameplay with the iconic characters, narrative, settings, and spell-casting from the Wizarding World.
“We are incredibly proud to bring Harry Potter to Zynga’s portfolio and are dedicated to creating a game that’s worthy of the Wizarding World and its legions of fans,” says Bernard Kim, President of Publishing at Zynga.
“By combining the ubiquity of mobile and the expertise of Zynga’s development team in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, we are crafting a game that will delight fans of all ages around the globe.”
Players create their own persona in the game and unlock Wizarding World elements, including new spells, potions and magic items, as they progress. Daily events and achievements will give longtime players plenty of content to work through as they gain experience points to level up, become more powerful and participate in special cooperative activities.
Zynga reported its highest ever annual revenue and bookings earlier last month, closing out a strong 2019 with Q4 revenue of $404m, a year-on-year climb of 63 per cent. The company highlighted its new Harry Potter title as a key release for 2020, alongside updates to its staple franchises such as Farmville.
