The latest collaboration in Uniqlo’s UT range is tapping into the current mainstream popularity of anime across Europe and the US, bringing 90s manga hit Sailor Moon to a collection of t-shirts.
Capitalising on nostalgia for the brand, the fast-fashion retailer is returning to the source material for its designs, drawing on the original Sailor Moon manga created by Naoko Takeuchi.
The collection will feature graphics of eponymous hero Sailor Moon, alongside her main crimefighting companions like Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion. A mix of English and Japanese text depicting key phrases and slogans from the series will accompany the colourful visuals.
The launch will coincide with the digital release of the manga series, and follows the recent announcement of a new two-part Sailor Moon feature-length production, both parts of which are due out next year. Entitled Sailor Moon Eternal, it will be the series’ first cinema outing since the mid-90s.
The Sailor Moon x Uniqlo UT collection is scheduled for a loose August launch window, though no concrete date has yet been set.
