The denim doyens at Levi Strauss have teamed up with Disney to launch a collection of Star Wars jeans, tees and other Levi’s essentials.

Paying homage to the sci-fi franchise, the collaboration features conspicuous branding, such as recreations of the original movie posters across the back of a denim jacket, alongside some subtler twists on Levi’s hallmark designs.

Jonathan Cheung, a self-proclaimed Star Wars fanatic and Senior Vice President of Design Innovation at Levi’s, says he wanted to create garments for all fans – those who wanted to show it off, and those who prefer a “personal secret”.

The most understated design looks, at first glance, like an average pair of Levi’s. But inside the trouser leg, the phrase ‘May the Force Be with You’ is woven into the selvedge, the stitched seam running the length of the legs’ interiors.

“If they didn’t cuff the jeans up, no one would know at all,” Jonathan says. “So we wanted that as well. If you know, you know.”

Black and yellow buttons to match the movies’ famous introductory crawl is another minimalist nod to the series, and a first for the brand. “We’ve never done that,” Jonathan says.

T-shirts and hoodies feature Chewbacca, Princess Leia and other icons of the space saga, alongside Levi’s branding, while Kenner’s iconic Star Wars toys also take a turn on tees and other staples.

Coinciding with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of The Skywalker, the full Star Wars x Levi’s collection offers a range of both classic Levi’s icons and streetwear-inspired favorites: tees and hoodies as well as Trucker Jackets and jeans in a unique array of washes.

"When we found out that the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga was coming at the end of 2019, we bundled up our Jedi and headed to Lucasfilm looking for Droids,” Jonathan adds.

“And here’s a barely known, fun fact: Luke Skywalker was wearing Levi’s in the original trilogy! Now it’s our turn to return the compliment with Vader, droids, Chewie and Leia.”

The collection is now available in Levi’s stores and online at levi.com.
