An animated film inspired by Raymond Briggs’ classic children’s book sees Father Christmas swap his red coat for a wax jacket, celebrating Barbour’s 125th anniversary

Jolly Saint Nick has swapped his red coat for a Barbour jacket this Christmas.

Barbour has launched its 2019 Christmas campaign which this year is inspired by Raymond Briggs’ popular children’s book Father Christmas.

The animated ‘Thanks Mrs C’ campaign follows Father Christmas through the decades as he delivers presents with the help of his old faithful Barbour wax jacket, which protects him on countless adventures along the way - and is likely easier to wipe chimney soot from.

Illuminated Films, produced the animation for the film, created to mark Barbour’s 125th anniversary this year. Flashing back to 1894, Father Christmas is gifted a new waxed jacket by Mrs C to replace his old jacket. Father Christmas is then seen delivering presents throughout Christmas eve in different time periods. The end of the film sees Father Christmas sitting comfortably at home, enjoying a hot cup of tea after a job well done, thanking Mrs C for her thoughtful gift which has looked after him for the last 125 years.

Paul Wilkinson, Global Marketing and Commercial Director said “For our 125th anniversary year, we wanted to do something special for our Christmas campaign. Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas is a much loved children’s book and it has inspired our film, which as well as capturing the spirit of the festive season in a humorous tale, also allows us to demonstrate the sustainability of our iconic wax jackets which, if rewaxed regularly, will last a long, long time.”

The agreement was brokered by The Copyrights Group, a Vivendi Company, who have been the licensing agents for Father Christmas for nearly 30 years. Rachel Clarke, SVP Licensing and Retail UK at The Copyrights Group said “We are thrilled to once again be partnering with Barbour for this new Father Christmas project. We are really looking forward to seeing the campaign come to life”.

The Barbour Father Christmas Thanks Mrs C film is live now on Barbour’s YouTube channel and Facebook.

A special limited-edition Father Christmas pin will be given away with every Barbour purchase in selected stores and online to commemorate the celebration.
